Brick by brick, MIDO is laying down a very good platform in their centennial year celebration. Taking the party to Taiwan, the Swiss brand launched their new Baroncelli Big Date and Baroncelli Trilogy which follows the launch of the Commander Big Date earlier in the year. As a brand that is inspired by architecture, thus in this case, the Baroncelli collection follows design cues from the Baroque-influenced, neoclassical style of Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. This building expresses the true refinement of traditional Italian architecture.

The anniversary edition though - Baroncelli Big Date, subtly inserting the large windows of the namesake big date to the dial. The elegant models also feature an automatic movement based on Mido’s Caliber 80 that offers a power reserve of up to 80 hours. In addition to the generous date display and anytime anyplace readability.

In the other instance, MIDO also gave us a rather peculiar offering in the Trilogy. This trio of watches is a look at the 'past, present and future' of the brand.  A continuation of the Baroncelli collection, the three models embody different periods of the brand's history as well as its resolutely forward-looking mindset: the years 1918, 2018 and 2118. Based on the Baroncelli model in polished 316L stainless steel, the three watches have a diameter of 38 mm, with a three-piece case that houses a finely decorated Elaboré-grade movement. The Baroncelli 1918’s, 2018’s, and 2118’s petite complication calibre is particularly dear to the brand, as the small seconds were part of its collections from as early as 1934.

As mentioned, all of these launches took place in Taiwan. The venue chosen was the Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Taipei.  The six-building complex made of red bricks in the Huashan 1914 Creative Park was built in 1918, making it the undoubtedly ideal venue for this centenary celebration. The show featured the concept of 'Past, Present and Future' and introduced a new chapter for the brand while reviewing its good old times. As minutes and seconds elapsed, the launch event opened with acrobatic dances and parkour performance.

After a flash of dazzling light and shadow, a spectacular fashion show was performed by models to showcase Mido's fascinating 2018 collections. Joseph Cheng (seated above with Robi the Robot) subsequently took the stage and honoured the 'Past Present Future' concept, as it had been quite a while since he last made a public appearance here in Taiwan. Cheng glamorously showcased Mido's classic timepieces aesthetics.

Adding some corporate glamour, Franz Linder, the President of Mido, attended this event together with Vicky Lee, the Country Manager of the Swatch Group Taiwan and Mark Lan, the Brand Manager of Mido Taiwan. To celebrate Mido's centennial the Baroncelli Big Date, featuring an exclusive big date display and equipped with the Caliber 80 ultra-durable automatic movement was introduced, along with the Baroncelli Trilogy limited editions. These watches represent the years 1918 and 2018 as well as outlook and expectations for 2118.
